Narasimha Maha-Mantra ( Mantrarajapada Stotram)

It is said that, Lord Narasimha is the "Poorna" avataara and one of the most powerful  incarnation of Lord Vishnu. I am truly blessed to have Lord Narasimha as our "Kul Deva". The Shloka or mantra (holy chants) are one of the forms mainly written in Sanskrit - with an intension to praise or worship God. One such chant is this Narasimha Maha Mantra.

I learned this from my grand father (Late. Srinivas Padiyar). According to him, this is the most powerful Shloka of its kind. I searched over the net to get more information on this. But in most of the relevant sites, I could find only the first shloka, which is believed to be the most powerful of all. The continuation of this mantra is not found anywhere over the net (I couldn't find...).

I believe, the entire shloka written here is one of the rarest to find. May Lord Narasimha bless you all.

Update: One of the readers gave me link which has the meaning to these shlokas. I have incorporated the changes - corrected the grammatical mistake, added few missing lines and the meaning.

This shloka is from the Ahirbudhnya Samhita, a Paancharaatra text and is told by Lord Parameshwarar in praise of Lakshmi Narasimha.

  1. Paddy, while I was just browsing through the Internet, I hit upon your post on Nrisimha Maha Mantra! I was so very happy, in fact, ecstatic to read that sloka. We - the serious devotees of Nrisimha in Tamil Nadu call it "Mantra Rajapatha Stotra! It's said that this is THE mantra preached by Lord Shiva to Parvathi, because of all the mantras, Lord Shiva liked this the most.
I recite the mantra innumerable times everyday: in the puja room, while driving, or anywhere and everywhere. I'm a very serious devotee of Lord Nrisimha. HE revealed HIMSELF to me, when I didn't know HIM at all. There are innumerable miracles HE has conducted, and showed me who HE is! But, I keep crying why of all persons, HE's chosen me to reveal all such things to me, for I'm a very ignorant and good-for-nothing chap.
Interestingly, I worked in KMC, Manipal as Assistant Professor in Pharmacology during the period between 1973 and 1979.
The fact that I happened to see your site, and am writing 'something' on Lord Nrisimha in the evening of the holiest month in Tamil Nadu, namely "Margazhi" - that too on the very first day - itself is proof that the Lord guides me. HE's made me see your post, and made me to blog this as a reply. How very compassionate HE is!
I'll keep visiting your site for the love I've on Lord Nrisimha, and HIS devotees!
Continue your divine work, Pady! The Lord HIMSELF will help you in ALL your endevors. Thank you, and bye for now. - Bose.

  2. Hi Chandrabose,

Thank you for visiting and the comments. Also, for knowledge bite that you have written about the shloka... Yes, we are blessed to have lord narasimha as our ishta deva... As they say, he is the only poorna avatara and the most powerful one of all... I can only say, once we believe in him, he makes us walk in the right path no matter how ignorant we are.. Happy to meet one such devotee... May lord narasimha bless you and your family :)

  3. Pady, thank you for your quick response to my blog, although you claimed yourself you're lazy and sedantary. Again, see what the lord has done to me. He's blessed my family and me "in your words". That too on a very auspicious day - ie, today: May 17th is "Vaikunda Ekadasi". Ekadasi was over this afternoon, and had given to Dwadasi now (but, Ekadasi thithi). Dwadasi is a good time to pray on Him. "Gnaanathmakaaya gnaanaaya vishvaeshaaya paramaathmanae/ Yaekaathmanae namasthupyam, namasthae dwaadashathmanae!/") The two lines are from Sri Lakshmi Nrisimha Sahasranaamam, and I've quoted those lines only to show dwaadasi belongs to Him. My wife and me would be leaving to a Nrisimhar temple in an hour to have his darshan. Isn't this again His miracle? That's wishing my family and me good 'through' you on a VERY auspicious day? This is because He clearly is biased to help His devotees. OK, I'll tell you more in my future blogs. Another mantra that's equally very rewarding is known by the name, Nrisimha Prapathi. I've tried to given the stotra below. There's no need to translate this mantra, as you can easily follow the meaning yourself (I too don't know sanskrit).
    Nrisimha Prapathi
    Maathaa Nrismha
    Pithaa Nrisimha
    Praadhaa Nrisimha
    Saka Nrisimha

    Vidhyaa Nrisimha
    Dhravinam Nrisimha
    Swami Nrisimha
    Sakalam Nrisimha

    Idho Nrisimha
    Paratho Nrisimha
    Yatho yatho yaahi, dhatho Nrisimha

    Nrisimha daevaadhth parona kaschith
    Thasmaan Nrisimha charanam prapathiyae!

I pray Lord Nrisimhar to bless you (otherwise also, you're already blessed by Him, or else, you simply couldn't have fallen in love with Him).

    Bye, Bose.

  11. Hi Geeta,

There are no such restrictions. You can chant the shlokas any number time or at any time during the day. It doesn't necessarily be done in a particular way or place.. As long as your faith and dedication is strong rest doesn't matter. I hope & pray that all your problems get resolved very soon...

  25. There is no restriction on anyone (men/women/children) on whether or not reciting the shloka. As far as I know, anyone can do that. And no, this can be done without actually performing a pooja. Hope this clarifies.
