26 and yet not famous!

Disclaimer – I apologise for having some out-of-the-context facts at the start of the post, which I have tried to relate somehow later. This post is not about any social problems or my perspective on any burning issue. This is about my life and my views on the life. If you aren’t interested in knowing, then you may stop here. And yeah, the post is bit too long (so is the disclaimer  :P)! I couldn’t help it  :)

1985
A year that was declared International Youth Year by the United nations.

August, 1985

25th August, 1985 (12:19 AM)
Indian population increased by ‘X’. One of them was a boy of a not-so-well-settled family in Udupi, Karnataka. The happiness of the man & women had no bounds as they welcomed the new addition to their family, who opened his eyes for the first time after coming out of his mother’s womb. The man at his age 25 was a proud father. The boy was later named as Sunil – influenced by the cricket legend ‘little master’ of that time Sunil Gavaskar.
Loved by the whole family, Sunil got everything he asked for. The not-so-settled family has slowly & steadily started settling as they bought their first own house after 3 rented houses since his arrival. His father worked hard as an auto-driver plus sometime in the small general stores shared by his younger brother. They were a joint family. He did his schooling at the same school where his father, uncle, aunt had studied. He always came in the first 3 ranks in all the exams in every class till 10th. (Mostly 2nd)  Jack of all trades but master of none – the line best suited him. The focus on study somehow deteriorated by time from 90’s to 80’s to 70’s. With the help of his mother tongue ‘Konkani’ he did get a seat in one of the Engineering College. For all the life he spent with parents, he got a chance for the first time to be on his own for the most part. The numbers continued to deteriorate but somehow he managed to get an average of 60 at the end of engineering on time. Luck always favoured him and he did manage to get a job at the end of college life in a small scale IT Company in his home town…

Well, you know what I was talking about. It has been a pleasant stay on mother earth for me since 26 years now. When I look back, I seriously doubt if I have accomplished something that earn me a page in Wikipedia or any top results in Google :P .. Like I said, the event list given above has both good and bad things in it. I am not sure if my time will be added in the good part someday but I will try not being included in the ‘insane’ part... So here I am – a grownup – not single anymore – earning handsome money – leading my life on my own (with my wife of course) – in the IT hub Bengaluru. Life has given me so many things so far and I am not sure what’s in store next. Every year when I get up on my birthday, I swear to myself to make this year the best. But if I ask myself, honestly I am not sure what to answer. There were so many things that I wanted to do. So many things I wanted to learn and achieve. Yet, life has its own way of surprising me and giving a new definition over the time. I never thought I will be doing engineering – I did. Never thought I will get E&C – I did. After 4th sem results never thought will get a job – I did. Never thought will have female fan following - *blush* * blush* I did. Never thought I will fall in love and then get married to the same person – I did... The list continues...

******

Now this may look perfect, but I always managed to complain on things. I thought at times life gave me things that I believed I’m not worthy of, somehow over the time I started complaining about it. Sky is the limit – my uncle always told me. So the expectations went on increasing, and poor life couldn’t catch-up with it. And I ended up not appreciating the things it gave me...

I can give a list of thousands that I always wanted to do. But have I whole-heartedly tried to do something about it? Well, that is where the whole thing stops. At times we want many things in life without actually working towards making it happen. There can be many reasons why we don’t want to start apart from just the laziness. So, that proves that I shouldn’t complain. O.K. Point taken...

So, what’s next? It isn’t that easy to get featured in Wikipedia so easily, unless I create my own page :P  But thanks to so many social networks and this blog, if I search my name in Google – it does give some relevant results!! Yippee.. (Don’t think that this is my only goal in life ;) )

Now let me look at my parent’s life. Even they aren’t featuring in such pages and they even don’t have their facebook profile. But, they have done few exceptional things (apart from giving birth to Sunil Padiyar ;) :P Just kidding.. ), just like many other common man-woman who strive for their respective families better future. Or even my grandparents for that matter. They never had the facilities or education like I had; they never had good books, cloths, toys and many other things that I fancy or show-off. Yet, they managed everything without complaining. They may never get a chance to become famous or even invent something. But leading a respectful life making their children reach higher positions (yeah, it does require some effort from the children themselves... My brother can be a good example here for the efforts he put in... Or shall I say, he did make the best use of what was given to him...), fulfilling their family needs on time or at some time when it matters the most, building their social status from ground zero to where they are now... being in a middle class family in such a costly world – itself is an exceptional thing within. If I reach this level, perhaps then I consider my life to be worthy (even if I am not featured in a Wikipedia etc ;) ). There are many “unsung heroes” in our lives whom we often miss out. They can even be our own parents, grandparents.  Someday, if our children find us to be one, well, that itself would be an achievement... This doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t follow our dreams. But that is not my point...

Having blabbered so many things, I wish myself a happy birthday and better year ahead.

  1. Happy birthday Sunil.

A page in Wikipedia, having thousand fans, being famous, .. the wishlist will never end. Then a time will come when you realise that it doesn't really matter - rather the opposite, because fame if it comes, is a heavy burden and takes away your freedom to do and to be.

What matters is did you express yourself, did you express your love, did you say sorry when it mattered ...

  5. A person's worth should be measured by what the people around him/her think... It should not be on basis of wiki pages... Ofcourse that might be one of the wishes, but it should not be the destiny….

And Sunil, knowing you personally I feel that after 26 years you are leading a better life than the one which your parents lived… and this has been possible because of your parents hard work and sacrifice to bring you up.. Now its your turn to make them happy...
And what ever height you reach as a person, at the end of the day I wish you will be the same person for your parents and other people who know you… That will make you more worth and gain respect from other people, that’s the asset which you will take back in life…

Wishing you all success and happiness in the coming year… Happy Birthday once again… Keep rocking. :)

P.S: By the way.. i completely disagree when you say, 26 and still not Famous! :P :P

  8. Before I comment, just want to make myself clear on certain aspect.

    * I never meant my only goal in life is to become famous! And I also never meant having a page in wikipedia or coming on the top results on Google search are the main criteria of being successful in life. I was just trying to make a point that we often tend to ignore or forget to value or appreciate certain things in life thinking that they aren't important or we always keep our expectation too high. It is good to have ambitions and high expectations in life, but not ignoring the smaller achievements.

@Sunil Jee - exactly, that is what I was trying to convey. You made it look simple :) Thanks for your wishes and thoughts.

@PencilGal - That's fine. Thanks for ur wishes. And yes, it was delicious :)

@Sneha - Thanks for the wishes Sneha. Well, ur piece is still safe in the fridge. Make some time to come down to our house. U R always welcome :)

    @ Jidu - Thanks a lot :)

    @ Anne - Thanks a lot :)

@ Devi - first of all I never meant featuring in Wiki is my only destiny in life. And the rest whatever you said - spot on. I think I missed some of the points in my post that you have added here. Thanks for that. And about that P.S :) well, just wanted to have a catchy line to my post :) So, hope I answered it all. Thanks a lot for your wishes :)

@ Ege :) Tusen takk for dine ønsker:)

@SIS- Thanks a lot for the wishes. Ur piece of cake is safe in the Fridge. Do come down when you are free :)

  10. Belated Birthday wishes.. I know it's really late but since I just read it... Wishes again! :)

Lovely read...It's so true that sometimes we fail to realise our parents worth compared to all the exceptional ppl around us... I just realised how important my parents are... They've done everything to give me a decent life and education.. I feel sorry I never acknowledged it before... Your post was an eye-opener for me :)

P.s. Didn't know your a married chap... hehe say hi to bhabhi :)
