A walk in the rain...
It wasn't new for me to work on Saturday's, in fact it had become a regular working day for us since the last couple of months. Saturday mornings are equally hard, like the Monday morning to get up. Within 2 hrs off the bed, I was in office in front of my PC, which was in no mood to boot up! Just like my managers, I knew how to make it work, after all I was its manager ;) Thankfully, I could finish my work a bit early. I started from my office bidding one and half days of rest to my PC at around 4PM, walking briskly towards the bus stop. Normally I take the cab but since I left early, I had no choice but to take public transport.
Covering my ears with some track from ZMND through the ear phones, I stared outside sitting quietly on my seat in the bus. Just when we cleared two signals from my stop, the weather transformed like how it does in movies. The grey clouds appeared from nowhere and the moisture filled breeze started hitting my rough face. (it was rough coz I didn't get time to shave in the last couple of days). This transition did change my mood drastically as I knew it will start raining any minute. I was no more tired. 'Mungaru maleye, enu ninna hanigale leele' (Oh the rains of monsoon, what is the magic of your drops... a beautiful song from one Kannada movie) a track from the movie 'Mungaru male' started playing, what a coincidence! My thoughts drifted to those old memories of mine assosiated with the rain and with that song too ;)
It started drizzling first and then heavily, as the rain drops started fighting to get through the window pane to reach my face, hands... I was enjoying it, but a grumpy fellow passenger dragged the window pane to shut it down. But the rain drops continued to hit the pane making an excellent combination of man-made music with that of natural one...
It continued raining throughout my half an hour journey. I had to get down when my stop came. I had no umbrella, but I had a jacket. At first my clever part of the mind signaled me to take cover and stop somewhere until the rain stops. But my mischievous mind said - screw him! lets go... I hesitated for a while as it was raining bit heavily. Also, considering the fact that I have limited Sick leaves left in my account, I thought for a while if I should go with my clever mind... But then, it has been long time since I had enjoyed rain like this. So why not do some 'tip tip barsa pani..? " (I missed my wife at that moment ;) ) Anyways, I started walking, slower than normal enjoying the pure form of water showered from the heavens!! Within 5 min, I was drenched. Interestingly, the most crowded pavement was all empty. I saw many people trying to get some shelter in every possible area of shops, bus stops etc. Few of them were running towards the shelter and few who even after having umbrella looked reluctant to use them. And there I was walking in the middle of pavement with no hassle and no hurry, as if it was made for me only!
Either the rains didn't like me as much as I liked it, or I had hurt its ego by not getting scared of it unlike the others :P (thanks wifey for this line ;) ) Lightning & thunder followed. I saw a women near a shop staring at me, that reminded me of my mother. I almost heard her saying - "kai puni bod sam aski tukka? pishe laglave pavsa khelchaka? Tapu aila polocha assa pale haav.." (have you gone crazy? why are you playing in the rain? You will be sick tomorrow!", well that was in Konkani, my mother tongue)... I just smiled and moved on...
I reached home after about 20 min of walk in the rain... How I really wished to dance like Shahid Kapoor in the movie Jab We Met. But then my consciousness warned - neither you are a kid, nor you are getting paid for it... After all my Geet was inside the house, so I dropped the idea. As I stood outside for my wife to open the door, I knew she would be furious to see me completely drenched. (As I am a little, ok.. a little too much prone to cold). As she opened the door, I stood there showing all my teeth, like a kid to his mother... ;) :P She threw a towel at me grumbling something. But I wasn't in a mood to listen to all that. I had a great time after all... I am not sure if I will get a fever tomorrow... *sneeze*.. (although I am already having some cold and my wife is looking at me with an I-had-told-you face). The only problem now is - she has sworn she would make me gulp down that turmeric rich stinking milk!! Yuck.. Anyway, it is worth it :) ;)
